Distilleries in BC: Where to Get the Best Rums

When sugar cane is fermented and then distilled, it becomes rum. This is why this drink is unique. Unlike other alcoholic drinks that are fermented from grains, malts and even potatoes, rum makes use of sugar cane. But while that process sounds easy, it actually isn’t.

Good quality rum can take a long time to perfect. And if you are looking for the best distilleries in BC that offer the best rums, you definitely should check out De Vine Spirits. This is located in Vancouver Island that is just right outside Victoria. Rather than sugar cane, they mainly use honey wine to create their rum. They make different flavors of rum. Aside from their classic one, they also make a Honey Wine Rum that goes through a second distillation process. The third flavor is a spiced one.

You can also check out Wayward Distillation House. Their Drunken Hive Rum also makes use of honey but they caramelize it first to get a smoky flavor from it. Although there are distinct differences in flavor to the original rum concoction, you can still clearly see the original flavors coming through.

Go visit True North Distilleries. They use the traditional approach in making rum with their Hecate Spice Rum and their Hulda Rum. Last but not the least is Victoria Distillers. This is one of those distillers in BC that make rum but not labelling it as rum. They only call their rums aromatic spirits.
